Exercise

Exercising is a very important component to your success, but the key to it is to enjoy your workouts.  When I first started I really did not know what I was doing, I just did what I thought would help and I always heard that cardio was the best way to lose weight so I began to walk/jog and went to Zumba at the Y twice a week.  This definitely worked for me; I began to see results because I was consistent.

I started researching more and began to find that weight training was a great exercise as well.  I always thought lifting weights made you look muscular and masculine but that was not the case.   I started weight training with the help of a coworker who helped me work on my form during breaks at work.  She also gave me some workouts she had cut out of magazines and I loved it because it told me what to do and when to do it.  Although I felt very intimidated at first with all the muscles working out around me, I went and did my routine with my headphones on and my eye set on the prize, a healthier me.  This helped me tremendously; I began to see muscles where I did not know there were muscles.

While going to the gym a coworker told me about this group he was going to and invited me to attend, he told me it was a boot camp class and it was free.  I was very hesitant at first but I decided to give it a try and boy was I in for quite the surprise, it was actually Cross fit.  My first class was a jog through a trail in my town but I had my 7 year old son with me so I walked instead.  That weekend I attended my first cross fit class and I haven’t left yet.

The class consisted of tire flipping, sledge hammer swinging, log carrying, it was the best workout I had ever experience and I highly recommend it.   What sets this group called The Dukes aside from any other group is that it is not a boot camp, it is not a place where you will be judged but rather a place where we encourage each other and lift each other up and help one another.  I have been a regular for about 7 months; Roy the big chief is great at changing things up.  Every week he comes up with a new way to torture us and that keeps it interesting and fun.

My suggestion to you is to experiment with several things, ask questions, do your research and find workouts that you enjoy.   At my age I have seen my body do things that I never thought I would be able to accomplish and the feeling is exhilarating and I just want to push myself more every time.

So what are you waiting for? Get moving :)
